Is there an easy way to identify which species or variety a Macadamia tree is? I'm creating plant labels for all my plants to include the species names. For most of my plants, I can just Google the species name. Unfortunately, I have no idea what kind of Macadamia I have here.
First, it could easily be a cross-species hybrid variety. One branch consistently has 3 leaves per node, the other has 4. It's still young, only about two feet tall. Second, I bought it in the little pre-inspected-by-the-HI-Dept.-of-Ag. bag at a botanical garden on the Big Island near Hilo a year ago last February, if that helps. Thanks in advance for any advice! |

Aloha Andy,
What you have is a seedling tree. The characteristics maybe different from mother tree. Commercial orchards have grafted macadamia trees. I did a quick search online for images of different varieties with no luck. It may be possible to determine variety from a photo of a leaf, at least by an expert. Send a photo and I will see what I can do. Regards Allen |
